Rapid response
FOREST Coach Lines operates excellent bus services to and from Chatswood. North Sydney when required and the city express from East Roseville day and night Undoubtedly, CEO David Royle's estimate requested by the Northern Beaches Council to operate rapid buses from Dee Why to Chatswood (MD Jun 27) is accurate.
This estimates a deficit of $4.5million a year. The council says this is a small price to pay but the State Government is reluctant to fund this, which is not surprising. When the roadworks at the new hospital with under and overpasses are completed, the drive for buses and cars from Dee Why to East Roseville will be "rapid".
This $4.5 million a year would therefore be better used towards constructing a twin tunnel from each side of the road up the hill from the Roseville Bridge and traversing under East Roseville and the Pacific Highway, emerging in the reserve adjacent to Millwood Ave, just down Fullers Rd from Chatswood.
This will enable all traffic from Dee Why and elsewhere travelling west to rapidly arrive at Chatswood by turning back up Fullers Rd, or proceed further west without having to drive on the currently congested Pacific Highway.
Furthermore, by reducing congestion at the Fullers Rd intersection, traffic on the Pacific Hwy will move more rapidly.

Real role of the RMS
PUTTING in a B-Line type bus service between Dee Why and Chatswood is going to make the RMS look bad, as their job is to build roads and promote car use. A frequent bus service with an increase in population density would make them (the RMS) look like they aren't doing their job properly.
Unfortunately, Transport for NSW is reluctant to tread on the RMS's glory with all the magnificent new roadworks.
Yes, it will take five to seven years to build a suitable sized clientele but public transport is like any other business, it grows best when there is unmet demand.
The hospital and other development will generate unmet demand for both bus and car use so please put in the Dee Why to Chatswood B-Line bus service and keep those who don't want to drive or can't drive happy too.
